During the year the Friends organise work parties on the meadows. These include
- Removing invasive Himalayan Balsam (April-September);
- Surveying for poisonous Giant Hogweed (main survey April);
- Reducing brambles and nettles to give other plants a chance (winter).
Work parties are an opportunity to get some gentle (or more strenuous, if you wish) exercise in the fresh air, while also helping the environment. No special skills are required, though you should wear gloves and sturdy shoes or boots, as work often takes place in the more overgrown and muddy parts of the meadows. Dates, locations and aims of work parties will be published on this site and announced through our Twitter account (@AberMeadows); or keep an eye out for notices at the main entrances to the meadows.
Local schools are helping and learning in the Meadows through our Young Friends groups
